Event Description

EXPLORING THE LORD'S PRAYER IN ARAMAIC This is an opportunity to enrich our understanding of the Lord’s Prayer and deepen its meaning by exploring the language Jesus spoke when he gave the prayer to his disciples. Everything Jesus said in Aramaic was translated into Greek and then English. Essential meaning can be “lost in translation.” It’s been said that the meaning of the word sin in Aramaic is to miss the mark, as when an archer misses the target. As Fr. Keating often said, “you are looking for happiness in the wrong places,” change your direction, a much different connotation than the commonly held notion of the word sin. Rev. Karen Hagen will present general background about the Aramaic language and lead an exploration of the meaning Jesus intended to convey in the prayer he gave us. There will also be an opportunity to learn an Aramaic chant. Interwoven into the morning will be two periods of Centering Prayer and times for reflection and sharing. WHEN: Saturday, November 9, 2024 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, CST WHERE: First Fruits Center, Elm Grove, WI First Fruits is located in The Village Court, 890 Elm Grove Road, Building 2, Suite 6, Elm Grove, WI.
